About

Portrait of Arbab Ahmad

Hi! I'm a multidisciplinary artist, coder and filmmaker interested in telling stories of the digital realm — the alienation and distance we uniquely feel as a result of the times. Animation, live action, fiction, non-fiction or mixed media: the form follows the story.

My graduation film from the National Institute of Design, Insides and Outsides, explores what it is like being a Muslim in India. It has travelled widely and won accolades nationally and internationally.

I have spent around ten years dabbling with the medium of film, playing almost every role along the way, and have now moved towards interactive art and hacking. I want to explore the new renditions of visual communication that exist online and on social media, and our connections with them — and I'm interested in re-looking at the form of the medium itself, to understand the bare bones of the digital image, beyond the unit of the pixel.

Right now I'm also building Paperscratch, a company I'm starting with my sister Samina Rahman — still a work in progress, more on that soon.
